Why 99% of people don’t get leads online (and how to fix it)

Hey Engineers,

You ever feel frustrated with the amount of effort you put into your content online only to get little to no leads off the back of it?

All the posting, commenting, connecting, messaging… for, well, nothing.

In the back of your mind that voice starts to eat away at you.

”Will I ever reach the holy land of leads on demand, coming TO me?”

I know the feeling. And I tried everything to solve it…

Was it more volume? Nope.
Post less but higher quality? Not that.
Maybe it’s the platform? Same result.

But then I took it back to first principles and thought about the mind state people are in when they consume content online…

They’re in the comfort of their own home.
Cuppa in hand, scrolling on their phone.
Reading a few lines of copy online.

It’s low commitment.

But I want them to spend 3/4/5 figures with me.

That’s high commitment.

In fact, there’s a HUGE commitment gap between the two.

And most people expect prospects to instantly make that jump online when they see their content.

Truthfully, only 5% will (these are ‘now buyers’).

The remaining 95% may never buy. But many of them will with the right nurturing.

They’re not ready to make that commitment leap yet.

So instead of expecting them to cross a gorge, we need to create stepping stones or ‘commitment bridges’ that gradually increase the commitments they’re willing to make.

Each one of these should require slightly more commitment from the prospect until they’re ready to slap a few grand in our accounts.

So how do you increase commitment?

You can do it by:

  • Increasing time someone has to invest

  • Increasing the effort someone has to exert

  • Increase the price someone has to pay

Here’s what that might look like:

  1. Consume social content

  2. Watch YouTube video

  3. Download lead magnet

  4. Consume email course

  5. Watch case study training

  6. Buy low-ticket product

  7. Book introductory call

  8. Book sales call

  9. Buy

So actually, your social content may not actually be the reason you’re not converting leads online.

More likely, it’s the bridge between your social content and your high ticket services - or lack thereof.

Spend the next couple of days thinking about what that bridge could look like for you.
